Writer/Director Marie Lidén is a Swedish born filmmaker and animator based in Glasgow, Scotland. Graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2011 with a degree in animation she went on to direct music videos, shorts and animations before focusing her practice on documentaries. Since then she has built a strong portfolio, working on over 10 independent and broadcast commissions – ranging from a BAFTA nominated animation, a Channel 4 First Cut documentary, to editing broadcast documentary ‘Barefoot in Business’ (Al-Jazeera English) as well as composing and sound design for documentary and drama. She is currently developing two international feature documentaries: ‘Electric Malady’ (Aconite Productions) and ‘Girls Of Cults’ (The Forest Of Black). Marie’s background in sound design, animation and music video plays a major role in all of her work, strongly informing her style. In her practice she is intrigued by issues that straddle definition, where mainstream society wants to draw neat lines, she seeks to make work that challenges this rigid thinking and exposes the complexity of the human experience.
